Mozzilla bottleneck?

I'm running Suse 9.1.
Processor: P4. RAM: 512 MB

I disabled IPv6. As a result, I can now blaze through the internet.

However, a curious behaviour arises when I have multiple tabs open. It seems Mozilla pauses or freezes up for about 1 or 2 seconds periodically. It's as though the CPU is bombarded for a moment and everything is put on hold while it churns away at something. Has anyone else made a similar observation? I'm wondering if it is somehow tied to disabling IPv6. I presume the RAM isn't a problem since I have 512 MB - and this problem arises even if Mozilla is the only program running.

I also notice that sometimes if I have a pdf file opened in Mozilla/Acroread pressing the "Back" button causes Mozilla to abort or to crash. It completely quits with no warning.

Anyone have some thoughts? Reinstalling Mozilla seems a bit drastic.

Thanks,
Ukee

Check out the Linux IPV6 HOWTO , section 2.1. Disabeling ipv6 is probably what's causing the problem.

i don't think it's disabling ipv6 causing troubles
i disabled it and didn't have problems
now you are just using ipv4 like everybody else

it may be some other process or server or cron job or something taking over for a second
and not mozilla realated

last problem is either a bug or possibly mozilla compiled against something a little different version than what you have running there..

good to compile you own mozilla so it's more stable but still it sometimes just has a few bugs

I think I'm getting the same with Mozilla 1.6 on Mandrake 10.0. Also it'll very rarely crash out when confused like this. GKrellm doesn't show a huge jump in cpu usage but there is a noticable spike.

Edit: Decided to make a new sig for myself.
