Mozilla won't recognize java plugin
Hi,
I wanted to develop java apps and applets on my RH9 machine. So I installed the latest JDK and now I can compile and run apps. But to run applets I needed to install the plugin for my browser. I followed the instructions and made a symbolic link in the mozilla plugins directory to the libjavaplugin_oji.so file in the JDK. However I still get the "need to install java pulgin" error when I try to run the applet. When I go to Help>About plugins I can't see any java plugin listed. Only the flash plugin I installed earlyer. In the /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4.2/plugins I have: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 62 Sep 25 15:02 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/java/jdk1.5.0_04/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so I think that does it. I've been serching all kinds of forums and usually that link does the trick. I seem to have some other problem Thanks, Matthew |
Just to make sure about a few things.
Are you using mozilla version 1.4.2? Or is it something else. If you have a/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder then that might work for you. If you don't create it and put the plugins in there. Its about a 50/50 option. If plugins are in that directory then even if you upgrade web browser the plugins still work without moving to new web browsers directory. Brian1 |
I have the link in both places.

Have you tried the plugin in the ns7-gcc29 directory instead. Depending on the version it may require that one. If mozilla crashes when using that one then that one will not work.

ok, I tried that and now when I go to help->About plugins the java plugins come up. So we're getting somewhere.
But I still get the same error when I try to open a java applet It says I need plugin for application/x-java-vm but I have that installed. I think somehow I need to activate it. I'll keep looking mabey there's something I'm missing. -Matthew |
I have thought about this and don't have anymore thoughts. Have you thought about upgrading to mozilla 1.7.* or going to firefox 1.0.7. If you do either then you would use the plugin in ns7.

Hey, just before you posted that I did upgrade to 1.7.12.
Which really I should've done at first anyway. Everything works now. Thanks for all your help. -Matthew |
