Mozilla problems

Mandrake box with static ip connected to winxp box running ics from DSL connection
This isn't an MTU problem.

Mozilla has problems with certain websites like cnn or collegehumor, sometimes even google. It will simply be very slow compared to other times.. ie. I'll have to wait 20 seconds or longer before pages is shown.

Konquerer doesn't show signs of this problem, yet both are set up without proxy settings and are treated as direct connections
I tried changing http 1.0 and 1.1 setting and even pipelining in mozilla preferences.

Just don't know what it could be

Also.. mozilla ignores my helper application entries.. .torrent is ignored and always opens them in as a page with bunch of text. What happened to asking me what to do with unknown file types?

Any help appreciated
ps. It's mozilla 1.6 and has java and shockwave plugins installed

It's not worth it to me to become a memeber of some special forum to find out what the problem is every time i run into a forum.. that's what this forum is for.

What is it that mozilla does differently than konquerer?.. I don't understand why there'd be a difference. this is a crappy deal.

Try specifying your ISP's nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf as opposed to letting Windows handle it via NAT. I've experienced that once before using Mozilla/Suse on my laptop through a friend's wireless network which used stupid Windows ICS. As soon as I removed the DNS proxying and specified the ISP servers for DNS it worked just fine. Might help, might not - who knows.
