Angry Mozilla pauses in DNS lookup.

I running Mozilla 1.7.3 via a SQUID proxy.

Ever since they installed the poxy proxy, Mozilla has a most irritating habit of freezing (unresponsive to all keys / clicks / refresh) while the DNS name lookup is occurring. As soon as that is over (0.1 to 2 seconds) , it's back to happy Mozilla. But for those moments it is just locked.

Is there a workaround for this problem? It is driving me nutted.
