mozilla messenger and access rights management

I just installed the Mandrake 9.2 distribution and try to use Mozilla Messenger as mail client. Funny thing is that when I open Mozilla it gives me the message that he can not write to the maildatabase (access rights are ok). After this message I loose all 'write' rights on ALL files, each document I try to open, from then on, is always opened in read only mode. Only solution is to restart (not just relogin) linux.

Fact is that I try to share my maildb between my mozilla messenger on Linux and my Netscape Messenger on Windows. As they are using the same data format I suppose this should work. Could this be the cause of problems??

Thanks for any help,
Colibri

Ahh - do you're mounting a vFAT parition to do this?

colibri 01-31-2004 03:04 AM

It's a FAT32 partition, only contains data that is used both by Linux and Win2000

How was it mounted - by an entry in /etc/fstab or by a user? (post fstab contents if unsure)

colibri 02-01-2004 04:17 AM

it's mounted through an entry in fstab:
/dev/hda5 /mnt/win_d vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0

in the mean time I've been trying around a bit and the problem isn't always occuring, some sessions everything works well, and then al of a sudden it pops up again.
