mozilla lockfile deletion

Hey everyone, i got fed up with mozilla prompting me for my profile every time i launched it with the kde menu (and those launch scripts were sucking too), so i just edited /usr/bin/mozilla to include a line to kill the lockfile if there is one. I can't think why mozilla has this file, since creating a new window from within the interface creates a duplicate process anyway, so it seems the same. However, I'm wondering if i'm doing something that could destroy or corrupt my profile data.

Is this safe?

You may (eventually) find problems with the web cache, and if you modify your bookmarks in one window, then the other will overwrite them when it closes.

It's possible to get mozilla to either open a new window, or a new tab when you try to open it while it's already running: launch the following instead of 'mozilla':

#!/bin/bash
/path/to/mozilla -remote "openURL($@, new-tab)" || /path/to/mozilla $@

Replace 'new-tab' with 'new-window' if required.
