Yea etch is a little different I can run
Code:
deb:/home/cab# update-alternatives --config java
There are 3 alternatives which provide `java'.
Selection Alternative
-----------------------------------------------
1 /usr/bin/gij-wrapper-4.1
+ 2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/java
* 3 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java
Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number:
Ok Ive got 1.5.0 installed and selected.. Java -version shows it..
I still have a question on using this for a 64 bit system.
Im tying to follow these instructions to do a symlink...
Code:
Enable java in your browser
In order to enable java in your browser you have to link the right plugin. For firefox it works as follows:
•
Open a shell and go to the plugins directory of your installed java. Here you will find the plugin you need to
link. It is named 'libjavaplugin_oji.so'.
•
Now you need to link this plugin to the plugins directory of firefox. It will probably be in /usr/lib/mozilla*
firefox/plugins (In Etch this is /usr/lib/firefox/plugins). This will work the same for /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.
Standing in the plugins directory of your browser make a symbolic link to the java plugin by typing as 1
command (as root)
ln *s /usr/local/programs/java/jdk1.5.0_06/jre/plugin/
i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
And get this
Code:
deb:/home/cab# cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins
deb:/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins# ln s /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/plugin/i386/ns7-gc/libjavaplugin_oji.so
ln: accessing `s': No such file or directory
deb:/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins#
I do have a libjavaplugin.so in the plugins folder..
