Mozilla add-ons don't recognize my Firefox

Hello. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (aka Trusty) and have Firefox installed (firefox:amd64/trusty-security 33.0+build2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 uptodate). I tried to install a search engine from a Mozilla website, but a window popped up saying "Sorry, you need a Mozilla based browser (such as Firefox) install a search plugin." See the attached photo. Does anyone know what is causing the site to give me this feedback?

Well I have never seen that particular error but I do know that the website will not allow you install a plugin if it thinks it is not compatable with youe version of firefox you can get around it by downloading the plugin and installing it manually, had to do that with a couple of plugins, on the other hand it could just be ubuntu p***ing about with the software as usual and deliberatly breaking stuff that isn't in their repos, or juzt because they can.

Okay, I did solve this. By restarting in safe-mode via "Help/Restart with add-ons disabled", I was then able to add the search add-ons. Why I had to do that I'm not sure, but regardless I was able to add them. So, solved.
