Mozilla 1.6 download manager won't pop up
 

Everything was fine right after the installation... however, after closing it and re-launch the application, download manager is not working anymore when clicking a hyperlink of a file, not even manually choosing 'Save link target as...'
and clicking help > about mozilla is not working too.......... it worked in the first time... very strange.
Theme cannot be changed... i think there are loads of problems, yet to be discovered.. sad.

I initally suspected it the problem of my fluxbox, but it turned out to be the same when using gnome...

anyone having the same horrifying problem? Any solution? (I tired re-installing Mozilla (including re-downloading the source file) but the same problem occured)

p.s. now i have to copy the link and use
#wget
to download files....

did u have the same problems with older mozilla versions?

Click on:
Edit -> Preferences -> Navigator -> Download
and make sure that "Open the download Manager" is set on.

h/w, the earlier version was worse as i could remember... even buttons in the website's not working... like the search button in google, or the login button in linuxquestions.org

Try deleting (or renaming) your old preferences files (the ~/.mozilla folder). Could be that there are obsolete settings that the browser is still reading that's messing it up (I've had this happen, although not the same problem in my case).

I tried, it's still the same.

But I eventually found out the problem... all those problems are actually from the old Mozilla (came with Redhat 9 , should be 1.4) and my shortcut triggered the old version of Mozilla.... that explained the problem of 'only first time is ok'.
Now I explicitly go to /usr/local/mozilla and run #./mozilla, it is then the version 1.6 and things r cool.

So, how can I completely remove the old version of Mozilla?

hmm... did u install using rpm? i think u should have "upgraded" using rpm-Uvh instead of installing the new moz.
"rpm -e mozilla"?

if u installed from src, then "make uninstall"? will be in the README/INSTALL.

oh shite it was too late...
i manually deleted some of the old mozilla's libraries...
and now... when i rpm -e mozilla
it failed on dependencies...
how can i undelete those files?
I did it in a terminal...

i then tried
#rpm -e --nodeps mozilla

and hoping it's clean enough...

i used the mozilla-installer to install 1.6 so i reckon the command above didnt delete any file of 1.6

Hopefully.....
My stupidity is messing up linux box...

well, if rpm -e mozilla said that it failed, im guessing, most likely, something from the 1.6 went too. :)
why not just install 1.6 again, if you have problems?
or just manually, search for mozilla files, and then delete, and then install again.

fortunately mozilla is working fine so far after a set of stupid actions i have just done...
u're right i think i will simply re-install the mozilla 1.6 if it fails later on.. touchwood

heard that they don't provide something proper for uninstalling 1.6 if u use the mozilla-installer, is that true? or should i delete /usr/local/mozilla/ and ~.mozilla/
then use rpm to install?

no, u never have to delete ~/.mozilla, as only your prefs are saved in those files.

thing is, even if you install without removing, being root, it will only go and overwrite the files. so, it dont matter. dont touch the files under /usr.

and umm, if it's working fine, then just leave it alone. :D
