Moving GRUB into WinMe boot loader

Hi, I read that I could boot Linux using a boot loader from windows. I read that I could move the GRUB boot loader into the NTLOADER in the boot.ini file, but this is valid only for Win2000/XP/NT versions. What I wanted to know is where or which is the file equivalent to boot.ini in windowsMe?

Thank you very much...

I don't think that's possible... what's wrong with Grub?

I know what you are talking about becuase I have read about it as well. But why do you want to use the NT bootloader to boot windows which is not easy to do instead of booting windows from grub?

As you stated, you can do this with NT and above. With the 9x series, AFAIK, no go. If you want to keep the 9x boot as it is, put grub on your Linux partition and make it bootable. You can select to boot Windows from the grubs menu. To change back, make the Windows partition bootable.

So, in other words I should just move GRUB to the MBR partition? That way I can use GRUB to boot Windows too. Now I use a boot disk in order to boot Linux. This mean that WinMe and below are not able to boot Linux? If this is the case I will move GRUB to the MBR. Do you know how to do this?

Thanks guys...

The MBR is not a partition, it's the first sector on the hard disk.
With Win95/98, you can dual boot using DOS and loadlin. There is a howto on this at www.tldp.org . Not sure if it still applies to ME, read the howto for details. The howto here: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/doc...n95-98-ME.html
Which distro are you using?

Run the 'fixmbr' command from the Windows XP Recovery console that's the cd.
And next time, please post your new questions in a new thread.
