mounting usb stick with normal user

When I need to access usb stick, I've been su to root account and cat proc/partition and find which device is usb and mounted with root account.

Is there easier way to access usb stick with normal user privilege?

I have to find out which device (etc sdb) to mount so I can't put mount options in fstab.

When I'm in xfce like x windows and put usb stick, the icon shows up. I want to do that in command line.

You could put it in your /etc/fstab (I'd recommend doing so by UUID) with the noauto,user flags. This would help: https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-...-update-fstab/

Here's a sample line for a USB device from my fstab.

Code:
UUID=1655a198-15a7-471f-9e99-e3fc9fd92ca0  /media/sdb1  ext3   rw,user,noauto      0  2

It has to be in the /etc/fstab for a user to mount it. Baring autofs that auto mounts it. Otherwise su or sudo routes.
