I recently purchased a cheap Network Attached Storage device from NewEgg.com which has both FTP and Samba services to access the files. It's nothing special at all, but it seems to work well enough for my purposes.
I run Slackware 11.0 on all of my machines. When I browse the Samba shares on the NAS with Konqueror (using the address smb://nasname/) everything shows up properly. However, when I try to actually mount the samba shares, all of the filename and directory name characters are scrambled and the files sizes appear to be outrageously large (like 116 petabytes). I can mount samba shares from my other servers without a problem, but anytime I try to mount a samba share from the NAS the results are consistent. Here are some of the mount commands I've tried:
Code:
mount -t smbfs //nasname/share /mnt/point
mount -t smbfs -o username=myname,password=mypassword //nasname/share /mnt/point
mount -t smbfs -o guest,iocharset=iso8859-1 //nasname/share /mnt/point
Am I missing some flag or option in the mount command?
smbclient shows all of the characters properly except for the following line:
Code:
Domain=[â½Â] OS=[] Server=[ï¿¿]
If anyone needs more information about the device, the NewEgg page is at

Thanks!
