I am running FC4. I have an external disk drive with a USB connection. When I connect the USB drive, almost immediately it becomes available as /media/usbdisk/
My question, when I have finished writing to the disk, do I just unplug it or do I (as I suspect) have to unmount it? If so, how/what command?
Example:
mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdisk -o users,gid=100,umask=002
* /dev/sdb1 - device is a subject of change, for it may vary
* vfat - may be replaced by "auto"
* to unmount use "umount /dev/XXX" -XXX stands for mounted device

If using KDE then you can have an icon come up. Goto Start Menu > Control Center > Desktop > Behavior > Device Icons. Check the Show Device Icon and then check all the others below or only the ones you want. If using Gnome I do not the answer to this. Maybe one that works with gnome can post if there is any setup needed or how to do it if possible.
