I have been reading up about numerous plugins to get silverlight working on Linux and I have come to the conclusion that Moonlight is the only way to go as far as I can see.
However I am unable to get it working as a browser plugin.
Is there anywhere to get the right versions to be able to perform these actions?
Or is there another product that is not WINE based that will work adequitely?
Before you embark on your moonlit path is there a particular website you're trying to get silverlight/moonlight working for? Or do you just want to generally browse most (but not all) silverlight websites?
I have not looked at the moonlight source but since it is a mono based project I would assume the plugin itself makes API calls to mono. Since mono is not a requirement for FF, it does not make those API calls. How are you trying to install the plugin and what distro?
I am mainly just having trouble gettnig it to integrate into FireFox properly.
I have the base in CentOS, and then I have also put the plugin into FireFox, but at this time I go to the specific page and it doesn't load Silverlight properly.
It brings up the loading thing, then it goes away at 100%, then nothing, it's just blank. What is it that is causing this issue? Is there something in Linux that causes it to not operate correctly?
I'm kind of surprised you were able to find a copy, the Mono project abandoned it some time ago.
A possible reason you may not getting Moonlight to work properly is that Microsoft did "not license their PlayReady DRM software for the Moonlight project to use and so Moonlight is unable to play encrypted content." Quote from here. I've run into this problem (when I had moonlight installed on an old copy of Ubuntu) more than once on various websites.
EDIT: I guess I didn't look hard enough, I was able to find a download site here.
Regards...
