Monitor disk access?

I'm trying to set up a NAS running on Fedora 8 with 2 750Gb drives in a software RAID1 (ext3). Right now, I keep getting small writes on the drives that prevent them from going into standby mode. I don't think it's an app, but rather the kernel writing the journal due to the periodical nature of the writes. However, I can't prove it and I'd like to figure out what exactly is causing the writes so I can try and stop them. Does anybody know of any apps that can monitor disk access in real-time (like top or tail -f), and what process is accessing it? Thanks for any input!

Have a look at this thread - interesting bits are the last couple of pages.

Thanks for the link. Via that thread, I found the "echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/block_dump" which showed me that it was indeed the ext3 journal causing the writes. I explicitly mounted the root fs as ext3, and voila! No more periodic writes... now it's decision time :P Thanks again!
