MongoDB RPM Roll your own

I've decided to make my first forray into MongoDB, but I am a bit pedantic, I really like to build and modify my own RPM from source.

I just like being able to tweek and modify the source then deploy my own RPM, however I keep hitting snags, probably I'm missing something obvious.

The rpm spec file I am using tries to get the source from git and compile it using scons.

Essentially similar to below

git clone https://github.com/mongodb/mongo.git
cd mongo
git archive --format=tar --prefix=mongodb-enterprise-r2.7.4/ r2.7.4 | gzip > ../mongodb-enterprise-r2.7.4.tar.gz

scons --ssl --32 --release --no-glibc-check -e platform="linux"
scons --ssl --32 --release --no-glibc-check tools
scons --ssl --32 --release --no-glibc-check core

Where it's going wrong is it tries to create and MSI install, it also consumes all the discspace.

I'm trying to see where I'm going wrong but can't find anything obvious.
Anyone done this successfully?
