Module Compilation

How to compile and run one module sample code?

when i was run the sample code it is giving error
like that "code compiled for 2.4.20 but available kernel is 2.4.22".
could u please any one tell me where is the problem?

But i m using gcc 3.2.3. and Linux kernel 2.4.22

I thought that before compiling running Module program we should compile
our own kernel .. Is it correct? If so please give me idea to configure the kernel.
