Modular X.Org help requested

Hey all,

I've been working on this problem myself for about a week now, and I've pretty much hit a brick wall.

I'm using Gentoo, 2.6.15 kernel, and I'm trying to migrate to X.Org 7.0. I've tried using the Modular X HOWTO on the Gentoo WIKI, and in theory, it should work except for one minor problem.

When trying to compile the first (or first few, as I've skipped around a bit) packages, compilation fails because of something along the lines of "(/usr/include/xorg/)X11/Xosdefs.h: No such file or directory."

(Generally I get loads of these errors and gcc bails out).

The funny thing is, when I install X.Org 6.8, the files in question exist, but portage won't let me install the files that require them while X.Org <=6.9 is installed. When I unmerge 6.8, the files are unmerged with it, and I'm stuck again. I've tried backing up /usr/include/xorg/X11/ and dropping the files back into their places when the unmerging is complete, but it seems to fail then as well (I assume because of differences in the required versions).

From what I understand, these headers are part of the X Development Library, but I can't seem to find any info on it, and nobody else out there is having this problem.

If anyone could give me a hint in the right direction, or a solution, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Drew

Have a look at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs...n/x/xorg7.html . The build order is important, At a guess I'd say you're missing one of the proto header packages.
