modprobe issues

I'm not really sure which forum this falls under, but I'm having a problem with "modprobe". I have a Gentoo box with kernel 2.6.14-kororaa-r6 running Asterisk 1.2.9. Whenever I try "modprobe ztdummy" I get the error below:

FATAL: Error inserting ztdummy (/lib/modules/2.6.14-kororaa-r6/misc/ztdummy.ko): Input/output error
FATAL: Error running install command for ztdummy
Then I check dmesg and see this:
ztdummy: Unable to register zaptel rtc driver
Has anyone seen a similar modprobe error before? I can't find anything on "Input/Output" errors from modprobel. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Something else might be locking the RTC, like the NTP daemon. Try killing that and see what happens.
