[SOLVED] modprbe.conf deprecated

I see lots of questions about modprobe.conf being deprecated. The answer (and the error message) say all files belong to /etc/modprobe.d. That's not an answer. Maybe the questions are too vague.
I need to make sure a driver is excluded from the initramfs file. Will creating an entry in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist prevent this driver from being built into the initramfs?
It's a remote system so it's hard to recover from a mistake.

All files in /etc/modprobe.d/ should end with [/i].conf[/i], otherwise they are ignored. The blacklist keyword (inside the file!) makes sure that the module is ignored.
