modifying linux core

hi,

i wanted to get into modifying linux source such that it would fit my desired functionality (the way i wanted it). the problem that i am facing now is:

- which distro would i use? (is this still necessary?)
- where can i find the details of this "source code modification"?

1- Any (Yes, else you use Linux From Scratch)
2- It depends on the "desired functionality".

what do you mean by "you use Linux From Scratch"???

"Linux From Scratch" (aka LFS) is a linux "distribution", that is in fact teaching you how to build your linux system entirely from sources, without any of those scripts, and add-ons, that Linux distributors always add to make things more simple.

Yves.
