modifying kde/desktop in linux

Hey guys i am new to linux and i have mandrake 10.1 and loving it. Seem to be getting the just of it. Anyway ive seen some screenshots of people having like hardware/cpu/temp monitors on their desktops and i was wondering what everyone uses or what is best and also is there a forum or site that is dedicated to linux kde desktop or whatever they call it modifying it and making it look cool, i guess you can call it s scheme. Sorry if i sound extremely new. I am learning. Anways i just wanted to know if there are communities dedicated to modifying schemes and making linux look cool. thanks.
