modifying httpd.conf for php

Hi all,
I've just installed PHP, Apache, and MySql to start with a wrox book
on learning them. Right now, I'm modifying httpd.conf to properly parse
PHP. According to my book, I must add the line:
Code:
LoadModule php4_module c:\php\sapi\php4apache2.dll
The book was supposed to cover both Linux and Windows but it seems like
it's neglected the first! Anyhow, on my machine (with Slackware), I
have /root/php4.3.8/sapi/apache/php4apache.dsp and ~/php4.3.8/sapi/apache2handler/php4apache2.dsp
I know that dsp is developer studio project (Micro$oft) so I shouldn't
think that it works on useful operating systems. Does anyone know how
I can get the functionality of php4apache2.dll on Linux? What should I
put in the httpd.conf?

Thanx for your time,
Cikotic

here's what i have (debian). i don't know if it's the same as the .dll or not, but it's worth a try:

LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so
AddModule mod_php4.c

Check out the installation instructions at php.net or in php4/docs ... they are step-bystep and accurate ... and those dll's in httpd.conf are for LAMP on Windows. Cheers.

Synaptical, I tried your way. At the boot prompt I get a message saying
php4_module is already loaded and that 'AddModule' is an unrecognized
command.
Tinkster, it is Slackware 10.

I'm off now to see the php manual.
