Modem problem: Suse 9.1

I am a complete newcomer to Linux but keen to get started. I purchased and successfully installed Suse 9.1. However, I am unable to get it to recognise or acknowledge the existence of my perfectly good and new modem, which is a Hayes v.92 fax/voice modem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Would that be an internal / external modem, PCI / ISA / Serial / USB.
Is it possible that it is a winmodem?

Thanks for your reply. Internal PCI. I have checked the box. Yes. System requirements seem to be limited to Windows. Exactly why I decided to go the Linux route! I will invest in a new modem. You might know what works best.

Our local community is planning to install satellite broadband delivered over a local wireless network. I live in a remote village on a UXB5 exchange! I won't need a modem then. I assume that Linux is wireless friendly via ethernet.

I recommend to check it on the Suse-site first....
