modem and ubuntu


hi
Ubuntu seems not to allow me to install 56k modem in some easy way (I should use it with synaptic).
Am I not aware of something?
Which is the shortest way to install 56k modem in ubuntu?
please

56K modem, what are those.

Enough joking, the first thing you want to do is check compatibility with your modem. Check out http://linmodems.org/ for help and their compatibility list. That's what I used to get my lucent modem working a couple of years back.
