MMS Protocol Question

Does anyone know if there is support for playing *.asf files from a website (normally played by windows media player)?? I am trying to achieve that using different players but it always complains: mms is not a registered protocol.
I have Fedora and Netscape 7.1 + Mozilla of course , several players - Realplayer, xine, vlc, mplayer ..
If anyone knows the answer - PLEASE post it

I am able to listen to feeds from mms sites, althought the files are .wma the log shows
"ASF file format detected" so I assume it will do what you want.

I downloaded "Latest Win32 codecpack" from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/
and copied the files to /usr/local/lib/codecs according to the instructions and recompiled mplayer.
You also need the plugin to be installed (which I had done before). I am able to listen to mms audio from several differerent web-sites, although not all (I have another thread where I am trying to resolve one I can't get).
