mkisofs, is there a max file size limitation?

Hello,
P3, 900mgz
Mandrake 10 official
kernel 2.6.3-15mdk

I am new to burning DVD images. Never did it under windows and just got my first DVD burner set up with linux. The drive works great, but Iam having problems trying to create an iso image over 4 gigs. I have been able to create iso images at 3.8 gigs and burn them successfully. So last night I used vobcopy to rip a dvd/vob image to my harddrive. The result is a 4.3G vob file. It was my hope that I could edit its size using avidmux but this program crashes--another thread. So now I have a vob file that is 4.3G and I would like to burn it.

I figure no problem. I'll run mkisofs and create an image.iso and burn it with growisofs. Well, there is a problem. I receive the error pasted below.

First question: Is there a max file size with mkisofs?
Second question: If not, where should I look for mistakes I might be making?

I really am lost with all of this. Thanks in advance for any help.

tsw

mkisofs -dvd-video -o /home/XXX/movie.iso /home/DVD/Projects/knights_tale1-1.vob

Hmm....the best thing I could say is to see if you have enough space on your harddrive

I dunno, is 10GB of free space enough to make an 4.3GB iso image? Yes, there is plenty of space on my hard drive. As stated above, I can make iso images up to 3.9GB but anything larger I receive the file too big error. I have been googling around a bit but have not found anything really pertinent to this specific problem.

Again, any help is appreciated.

A bit of an update.

I ripped the same title from my DVD this time using DVD::rip. It created five different VOB files that totaled the same 4.3GB size. I was then able to use mkisofs -dvd-video -udh /dev/etc.... command to create an iso image with these five different files. However, after burning this image was unviewable, yet the files were there. I believe that DVD::rip did not copy the .ifo file. What could the reason be that mkisofs will make a 4.3GB iso with five seperate files of that size but not from one large file of 4.3GB.

Anyway, my original question remains unanswered: Is there a file size limit for mkiosfs? Does anyone know?

thank you
tsw

Anybody? I have RTFM on mkisofs ( http://www.itg.uiuc.edu/help/mkisofs/mkisofs.html & http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/D...mkisofs.8.html) but they make no reference to file size limits, or have I missed something?

Anybody?
