mkCDrec package install problem

Hi:

I'm trying to install mkcdrec-v0.9.2-1 package on my SuSE machine. When i run

> rpm -i mkcdrec-v0.9.2-fc4.i386.rpm

I got a failure message:

error: Failed dependencies:
perl(are) is needed by mkcdrec-v0.9.2-1

But Perl has already been installed on this machine. I checked this and saw

> rpm -q perl
perl-5.8.3-32.9

What's wrong? Do i need to reinstall the perl package?

Thanks!

Why are you attempting to install an FC4 binary rpm on a SuSE system, this is not a good idea and is known to be a problem.

You may find luck by getting the source rpm package ( mkcdrec-v0.9.2-1.src.rpm ) and building the binary rpm package.

The package (mkcdrec-v0.9.2-fc4.i386.rpm) you are attempting to install was compiled for FC4 (Fedora Core 4) the fc4 part of the packagename. It is not meant for SuSE Linux, the perl versions are differnt for one thing. As I said download the source rpm package and build the binary, the source packagename is mkcdrec-v0.9.2-1.src.rpm and can be found here;

http://mkcdrec.sourceforge.net/

Follow the instructions to build the binary package fro the source package for you r Linux distro.

Thanks very much.

I downloaded the source rpm and found that there's no way to build it to binary. Because to run "make" is to run the scripts instead of compiling it. I guess the source rpm package is already binary? Am I right?

If i'm wrong , how to make binary using the source rpm? Could you tell me, Lenard?

Thanks again!

With the Red Hat family is done by typing something like; rpmbuild -bb mkcdrec.spec
or rpmbuild --recompile --rebuild mkcdrec-v0.9.2-1.src.rpm

Maybe something like this is done in SUSE also, check the SUSE support forum here.
