I'm trying to install mkCDrec on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 laptop running SuSE 7.3 Professional and having a few problems.
Firstly test 14 of make test (checks CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD=y in the kernel) fails despite the fact the my /usr/src/linux.config file says it is included. I've even recompiled my kernel to be doubly sure.
This doesn't seem to stop me running mkCDrec though, just seems to prevent the menu from appearing.
However, I do have problems burning the recovery CDs. mkCDrec says it needs to reload the media and ejects the CD-drive but unlike on a desktop PC it cannot bring the CD tray back in automatically. When I close the tray the program does not continue successfully, I get various errors saying it cannot write to the CD.
I tried setting BURNCD to n in the Config.sh file so I could create my own bootable CDs. But when I tried to create an El Torito bootable CD in xcdroast, 645MB of data (created by mkCDrec) took just 3 seconds to burn. Upon checking the CD I was not surprised to see it was not bootable and was in fact corrupt.
Has anyone got any bright ideas?
Is mkCDrec the best backup/recovery tool out there for Linux or can someone suggest another tool that is very user friendly?
Too tell you the truth, I backup to another PC on the network. If I want to burn it on a CD I use a Windows PC with EZ-Creator 5. I found Xcdroast and others that come with Red Hat just plain suck.
