mixing problems :-(

OK, at first I had a ton of problems with Alsa and just coudlen't get it to work (it coudl never find the right drivers or somethign and I diden't feal like messing wiht the Kernal...).

So, I added /sbin/modprobe i810_audio to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and all worked great.

Now i'm running into some anoyances thou First off I am stuck with one volume and secound of all I can't use the mixer. I can only listen to one thing at once (which is sometimes a problem.).

Also...whenever I run alsamixer i get the following...

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

Is there a way to get around all this and be able to use the mixer and control the volume.

Oh yeah...i'm using Slackware 9.1 (Everythign updated to what is in Slackware 10.0) and I am using KDE (I started off using Fluxbox which i realy like and know all the tricks for it...but I wanted more eye candy....).

Thanks

Bump

I guess nobody can think of a solution

Oh well...I'll try to fix it when I recompile the Kernal with the bootsplash thing if no one can think of a solution for this.

Oh...by the way...the kernal I am using is called Bare.i or whatever

I always got that error when I didn't have the module inserted in my kernel but it loks like you've got it. So I don't know for that one.

For the sound you should let the arts server take control of it. There's an option at the bottom of the sound configuration which is something with timeouts I think you need to set that one to 0. I read in the alsawiki that sharing via a sound server was the easiest. If that doesn't work I'd read the alsawiki on alsasharing

Thanks a lot...everythign is workign correctly now.

I downloaded a Arts Plugin for XMMS and set GAIM to use Arts and now I can listen to music and hear the dinging of IM's all at the same time! LOL.

The only problem i have with using Arts are two things....

Volume Control: Is there some sort of appelet (wheter a Karamba theme, Gdesklet, KDE applet, or somethign else) that will control the volume through arts. I know i can do this through XMMS, but it woudl be nice to have a global volume control....

Delay: When changing the volume though XMMS I have to wait like 5 secouns for the volume to adjust...i'm sure if is et the buffer to 0 or somehtign it will fix this problem...but I just found this anoiying...

Oh...one last thing. When Mozilla plays thigns like Flash will I have problems with sound? I coudlent' find any place in mozilla to set which sound server or mixer it used so i'm not sure (i'll have ot go to newgrounds and see if sound works while listing to msuic and having GAIM open...LOL.).

Anyways, thanks a lot.

EDIT: OK, changing my browser comand to artsdsp mozilla got sound working just fine...but I still would liek to know a program to control the master volume....

EDIT2: All problems solved! I found a nifty little KDE applet called Arts Control or somethign like that...works great and works wiht my transparnecy Thanks so much you guys.
