missing .so file in MyODBC package

Hi,

I was trying to install MyODBC for MySQL, and downloaded the binary distribution from the website. the installation guide says that I need to make a symbolic link to the dynamic lib file libmyodbc3-xxxxx.so, where xxxxx is the version number. However, I wasn't able to locate this limyodbc3-xxxxx.so at all - it wasn't in the package tar file, neither was it on my harddrive at all. has anyone run into this kind of problem before? know what the solution is? BTW, i am running redhat 9. Thanks!

The libmyodbc3-xxxxx.so file sounds like it would be specific to the SW you are trying to install, so you should find it in your installation tarball - unless you downloaded source instead of binary, in which case you would create this file when you compile the source.

Since you are running RedHat, you should probably be installing from the .rpm file instead of the tar ball.

hi idaho,

well, I did download the binary distribution, but the tar ball does not contain any so files at all (could it be a goof on their part?). all it had were lai la and a files. yeah, I will try the RPM, because it does contain the so file for sure. Thank you.
