Missing desktop in gnome 2.8
I have been using my fresh install of Fedora Core 3 for a little over a week now and recently the desktop background and icons are gone. I believe I had this happen with Core 2 a while ago and running nautilus manually solved the problem. No such luck this time. I have also tried removing my .gnome .gnome2 and several other hidden directories from my home dir. I have the same problem even when logging in as root and running X.
Has anyone had this issue? Is there something else I can try that might fix this? Thanks, |
Found a solution....
I found a solution in another post on this board. Here's what to do.... outside of x windows at the command prompt, enter:
switchdesk=gnome Then start x windows. When it is loaded up, if the icons/desktop still isn't showing (it didn't for me) open a terminal window, and run "nautilus" That did it for me. Hope this helps someone else too. |
