Misc Utils

Hello,

I'm moving to Slackware and i'm looking for the following:

-Frontend for LAME (In Win I use EAC. Need something on that level.)
-E-mail program ( Needs to import Outlook 2003 files, contacts, etc)
-MSN Messanger replacement
-Media player. I heard XMMS was built on GTK 1.2 or something like that and its old now.
-MP3 ID3 tagger. (In Win, EAC usually does this, not sure if anything is that advanced in Linux though)

Thanks,

-Ben

Frontend for lame: dekagen
xmms is not old...GTK is merely used for the gui, not for the heart of the program.

Dunno - I do what ripping and encoding I do with CLI.

-E-mail program ( Needs to import Outlook 2003 files, contacts, etc)
I use mozilla (suite) - never have used Outlook but I believe mozilla will handle that.

-MSN Messanger replacement
I think amsn is such a thing, but gaim handles the protocol.

-Media player. I heard XMMS was built on GTK 1.2 or something like that and its old now.
xmms is fine. For video and whatnot, mplayer, though it can be tricky to install. xine isn't as good (IMO) but seems to work easier for some.

-MP3 ID3 tagger. (In Win, EAC usually does this, not sure if anything is that advanced in Linux though)
Oof. I searched and searched and compiled and compiled looking for something remotely approaching TagScanner. Ended up using EasyTAG. (Partly - I actually rebooted Windows for the first time in many moons to do some stuff.)

Also see http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-l...en/table.shtml And freshmeat and/or sourceforge.
