Mint 17 v2 Mate suddenly reboots when booting or installing from Live DVD

Mint 17 v2 Mate suddenly reboots when booting or installing from Live DVD

I bought Mint 17 v2 Mate 64 bit from OS Disc.com

My PC has the following specification :-

AMD A4-6300 3.9GHZ TURBO 3.7GHZ DUAL CORE 64bit

MSI Motherboard A78M-E35

The problem is discussed on the Ubuntu forum and listed as Bug no 1309578 Ubuntu . Essentially it is a video driver problem .

The solutions offered were a bit beyond my technical abilities (Too much terminal) but I was successful with the following GUI procedure .

As the DVD boots and when the 'Mint' logo first appears , press ESC and select 'boot in compatibility mode '

The live 'Mint' desktop appears .

Choose 'install' as normal , and installation proceeds without a problem .

After installation , with DVD removed (may need to press reset or power button) reboot the system .

At the boot text text menu select 'recovery mode' and boot progresses to the desktop .(Possibly an ESC press may be needed to show the text menu)

Now connect to the Internet . In my case , I inserted my Vodafone USB Broadband dongle and a connection was automatically made .

Open 'Package Manager' from the menu . In the 'Package Manager' click on 'search' entering fglrx for the AMD video drivers . Then simply click on 'Apply' and await the download and setup process to complete .

Now you can reboot and enjoy Linux Mint without the reboot problem................hopefully !

I hope this helps my fellow Noobs !
