Minor mouse problem

Hi all!!

For some time now my mouse would not be detected at startup - its basically dead. So every time I restart I have to unplug mouse at the back, unplug keyboard, wait a couple of seconds and then replug them and mouse works. Both mouse and keyboard are PS/2 but problem actually started when I had to switch mouse from usb to ps2 slot to free up the usb for a printer.
I dont have any more usb slots or problem would have been solved. Is there another permanent solution so that I dont have to get behind all the cables every time. I've looked at my xorg.conf file and this is the entry for the mouse:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection

I dont know what else to do - I've tried mouseconfig, tried removing mouse and then reinstalling it with kudzu... no luck. There seems to be another entry somewhere that keeps mouse at the usb slot.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Try changing the device to /dev/mouse or /dev/psaux

First of all - thank you for theinput. I hadnt thought of that .. but no luck here either. I tried with /dev/psmouse and /dev/psaux and /dev/input/mouse0,1,2 ... X server just hangs and gives error message that a problem was detected w mouse and it could not be initialized on that device - then it gives the option to reconfigure the mouse but that didnt do anything.

Any other suggestions?!?!
