mime/mailcap cli launcher?

I'm looking for something like :

A centralized app to launch files from the cli using the mime and mailcap files. So I can use it in every application. Best would be that if it has an interface (to choose between programs to open file with) that it's curses based. I know there is some view command in ion3 wm which works like I want, but I don't use ion3 so I'd like a script or program to use in the cli.

Does anyone know of such a thing?

I think it's one of the things that should be centralized because choosing which apps to open with in every program is just absurd.
