Midnight Commander - Ctrl-enter doesn't work in Putty

Why are we bothered with Putty? It is a Windows application, isn't it?

Yes, but I've already eliminated Putty from the chain, it doesn't affect the issue. I can't seem to rename the thread though, I would otherwise.

Both are basic US... err... I don't know about any other localisation options. In fact, one one of the PC's I've booted from Debian live USB stick, it didn't ask me for anything, but it's obviously configured with US keyboard.

As far as I know we can setup terminal type in .bashrc, though in my case it was empty, I'm not sure which is the default terminal type. Can this be related to some terminal setting which SSH use?

Unfortunately I have no idea what's happening. Something similar happened to me before 1995 (yes, more than 20 years). The reason was that time basically different locals. ssh does not really care about anything like this, it will simply send data from A to B and from B to A. The problem I think is that A and B understand the given key sequence differently. Without sitting in front of the keyboard I cannot go further.

Ok guys, thank you very much for the replies, this is a great community as far as I can tell

Unfortunately I didn't solve the issue, but I'm already getting used to using Alt+Enter instead of Ctrl+Enter (and only left Alt is working - right Alt+Enter does the same as Ctrl+Enter i.e. acts as just Enter).
I hope I can live with this

Midnight Commander very recently switched from sLang to nCurses, which has caused some glitches, perhaps that changeover is affecting the key interpretation.'

I use mc extensively in Fedora 25, and the changeover has caused Shift-F6 to want to delete a file rather than rename it. And it's inconsistent, some putty terminals and ssh terminals work or don't, while the console screen seems to show the new (unwanted) behavior.

wow, what a complicated keycode. In my opinion, this is very weird, that the enter does not work.
