midi and audio recording software

guys,

I am currently using windows XP. and I am using Cubase (copied cause I a cant afford to buy it)

Now, I have been sick of windows for a long time, and I tried Mandrake last year, I found it hard to get to grips with it and decided to go back to windows.

I have doen searches on the net for music software that I can dothe same types of things as Cubase or Sonar.

I know that nothing will be the same but is there anything close out there that will do what I want?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've never used cubase so I don't know what it's capable of doing. But this program seems to be along the lines of what you are looking for:

This looks very close to what I am looking for.

And I suppose that with development it can supposrt VSTi and DX system formats as well for more realistic sounded instruments through midi.

thanks

Looks like, i will be downloading and installing linux tonight.
