Microsoft Word compatible document
Hi,
resume in MS Word, seems to be the need of recruiters. however my computer runs only Linux. is there a way, by which, Office.org or any other Linux software can solve this problem, so a person can send a document formatted in a Linux computer, which can be opened by another person using Microsoft Word? this would also save me trips to Kinkos, whenever a recruiter requests me to send a Word formatted resume! Thank you. |
I use OpenOffice.org for my resume. File -> SaveAs. There is an option to save it in Microsoft Word format.
It also opens MS Word documents. You may have to reformat a little but when you save it should look the same in Windows. |
OpenOffie.org can save documents in .doc format, how good that is I don't know because I usually just use it for small documents without a lot of formatting. Just select the option to save in .doc when the dialog box comes up when you want to save a document.

Open Office can do what you want and more, it can open MS .doc and it can also save to MS .doc as well. I have never had compatibility issues between OO.o and MS word and excel formats as long as I "save as" to the MS formats

Thank you all.
let me try it out by sending an email with the Openoffice doc and trying to open it up in another computer. need to run to Kinkos again! |
when you go to 'save as' you will get a notice indicating that things may not be saved properly. i have yet to have a problem with any file i open in either M$ Office, or in OO created at either end, modified at either end, etc.
i still dont know what OO equivilent to Excel is yet, but thats ok, i dont use that much, nor do i use access much. |
here is my update:
was able to create a document in OpenOffice.org, save it in MS Word format and email it. went to another computer having Windows running, downloaded the document from my email and opened it in Word! great help for your replies! Thank you. |
