Microsoft Office 2013 support in vanilla Wine 2.0??

Hello,

I just saw the release of Crossover 16 for Linux, which now has Microsoft Office 2013 support. They say the new Crossover is based on the soon to be released Wine 2.0.

A quick look at winehq.com didn't tell me whether Wine 2.0 will support Office 2013 out of the box. Does anyone know if I will be able to run Microsoft Office 2013 on *vanilla/stock* Wine 2.0?? Thanks!!

Create a 32-bit container and run winetricks. From there you can install components and run winecfg to change the Windows version from XP to Win7 (required).

From reports I've read office 2013 may require at the very least the msxml6 component installed (easiest to do with winetricks).

Alternatively you can use playonlinux which will create the container but may rely on older scrips/versions of wine. It has a lot of settings though so you can tweak and experiment.

I too read that 64 bit and other features were in CrossOver's product. It is a great product and they usually put all their work into wine after some time. If you need Windows programs then buying it would be a chance. It also has quite a few other features that may interest the owner.

I'd be happy to just buy the latest Crossover 16 to run Microsoft Office 2013, but I'm very curious to what did they with Crossover (on top of stock Wine 2.0) to make it work with Office 2013. Anyone knows?

Thanks for the link. The PlayOnLinux script referred in the article is more than a year old, though, and it hasn't been updated to reflect the latest changes in Wine 2.0...

Ok. Thanks for the feedback. I assumed that because the article was 2 days old that it would be up-to-date. I'll know better next time. ;-)
