Microsoft Office 2003 in Wine
I agree with you 100% but since the laptop isn't for me I am kinda
stuck? He says that he has to have office (I have tried to get him to convert but he says that OpenOffice is not "OFFICE" |

1. What does "OFFICE" give you that OpenOffice doesn't? and if he comes up with anything real.... 2. Then why don't you stick to Windows? There are ways to fix the font problem, but Wine isn't perfect, and since OpenOffice gives you 99% of what MS Office does, it's hard to put alot of effort into getting MS to work. |
and he's switching to Linux why ? if he can afford a licensed copy of MS Office then the cost of an OS is nothing..
If he's pirating MS Office, then using OpenOffice instead will relieve him of liability issues from pirating software. Aside from that you could always look at Crossover Linux from Codeweavers a supported version of WINE that runs MS office and they will provide support for issues you may have.. |
Microsoft Office 2003 in Wine
The reason that he swithced to Linux in the first place, was he
was tired of getting malware, spyware, etc. But he installed ubuntu with out my knowledge and when he realized that it wasn't as easy as Windows. He turned to me for help and since I am a nice person(Most of the time). I want to help him and if I can get him to use it good then more people will use linux So he is about to go and buy a copy of Crossover. Thanks for the help John |
same problem here with Debian 4.. Office 2003 installed with wine-doors but fonts very ugly and strange...
Any suggestion?? Cheers Sylvaticus (Please: no-talebans-of-free-software here.. I like OO and use it almost ever for my work, but there are situation when u have to work with others where u need MS Office.. it's called vendor lock-in, and it works) |
