Mic volume very low

Hi. I hope this is the right forum for this matter.

My mic volume on skype is very low. It worked ok for a short while yesterday, but after a reboot it crashed again. I have played around with kmix and other mixers and even tried editing skypes config.xml by hand.

This is not a hardware problem because it workes fine in Windows.

Many sound cards have a setting "boost mic level by 20 db" in one of the mixer dialogs. If you use your mixer panel, make sure it is for the sound device you use for skype.

I'm afraid using mic boost is not an option because this leads to a lot of noise thanks anyway
