Mic problems with Ventrilo (wine) - just need help getting the mic on

Ok so yes I'm mainly wanting my mic to use ventrilo.. I had it working perfectly with the instructions off the winehq.com site the other day.. since then I updated my Ubuntu and now the ventrilo won't responsed to my mic at all. (the light won't light up to talk)

I'm VERY confused on what to do to acctually get the mic to work. It was pure luck the first time. I opened alsamixer in term and I have 2 options. Master and Capture. I have an Audigy 2 SE card - the cheap $20 from walmart one.

When I got it working the first time it was some strange combo of things from alsamixer and my gnome mixer playing with the capture on both and the mic settings on the gnome mixer thing. Now for some reason none if it will work with Ventrilo.

I can hear the sound through the mic and everything all the time now.. just can't get it working. I also tried Audacity but I get the silly input error even after trying ever posible input setting in the prefs.

Any suggestions?

I am running Fedora 8 and utilized the link below to get it to work. I know others used it with diff distros to get it working also.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=41737

Now if you have already done this, double check to see that you are using the right mic input (usually have 2 one on front header and another from output of card). Also check to see if Mic Boost is enabled and as you already mentioned capture enabled.

while running Vent, the Vent window must be active/foreground in order to toggle the mic. It will not pick up the mic PTT key if in background. (if someone found a fix for that, please let me know)

Thats acctually me on that thread commenting about TeamSpeak lol.. But that was what 3 years ago now?

I just wish there was an easy switch for mic use on Linux. I haven't figured out how to get any program to record using the microphone yet. Thats probably why Vent doesn't work either.

Sorry, did not put the two together....I prefer TS myself, but clans use Vent. So I can hear them, but don't do much return due to Vent not registering push to talk while in game.

Does alsamixer show a mic select? Have you tried mic 1 and mic 2 if there is one? That and other input devices trumping the mic input were typically my problem.

The last mic problems that I could not figure out was due to pulseaudio being new and I just dumped it and rolled back to arts/alsa/oss instead.

Other than that and the physical switch actually on the mic (if you have one there) I don't have anything else that I can think of right now.

Well I on the PulseAudio alsamixer all I have is Master and Capture .. thats all it has. I only can tweak the mic in the gnome mixer.

Was it easier going back to the Alsa/OSS/Arts system for you? Cause maybe thats what I need to do to make my configuration easier.
