Unhappy MIC and Modem errors during install

Hi,

I am trying to install Linux 7.1 on a machine based on a Socket-462 motherboard hosting an AMD K7 processor. This machine has an internal NIC and software based modem.
I searched the Hardware configuration list for x86 based machines at:
http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/genpa...tpage=7.1-inic
and both, my embeded NIC type and modem type are listed.
The NIC is a Sis 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter and the modem is a PCTel one.
I am getting the following fatal errors:
1._ Linux does not recognize the embeded ethernet card in the Mobo. I am getting a:

Bringing up interface eth0: Determining IP info for configuration failed ...

during boot up, and

2._ the PCTel modem is not recognised by Linux either, so I can not even connect to the internet.

Please, let me know do I solved this problem, and/or if you need more info.

Thanks

www.linmodems.org
i can't remember right off the top of my head, but i think there is some support for PCTel softmodems, but it's limited.

i'm not sure about the embedded ethernet, but if it's not controller-less, then it should be supported. i'll look around to see what else i can find.

Went to linuxmodems.com

and found a file named pctel-2.4.tar.gz.

I will need to:

1._ download the file using Windows onto a floppy,
2._ boot up Linux

But what do I do then? Could you indicate to me the next steps or point me to this info?

As you can see I am new to Linux.

Thanks
