meta keys: and so forth ...

I'd like to have some keys, like the ` ' and ^ key, 'wait for' further input, so that for example a ['] and an [a] produce a [].
Right now, I have to use something like KCharSelect to get those, but a friend of mine told me the above was possible. I really can't figure out how.
Any help?

EDIT: I misread your question I think, nevertheless I may have not ... sorry if I did Here's my reply anyway... I though you just didn't have those keys responding ...

have a look in /etc/profile.d/

there is a line:
export LANG=C

turn it into

export LANG=nl_NL@euro

(I gather from your location that your in the netherlands)

That did it for me (though it was LANG=nl_BE@euro)

Try it out (needs rerunning[I THINK] or rebooting[I KNOW])
