Mepis/XFCE
I just got Mepis installed on my hd last night, and now i'm trying to install XFCE instead of KDE. I tried using the graphical installer .bin file from the xfce website but I could not get that to open. I am new to linux and i need to find out where i would find the file for XFCE on the web that i need....

The easiest method would be to install it throught Synaptic. I was able to install several alternatives using this route.

how would i install in through synaptic, i searched for it and never found anything, and my linux isn't connected to the internet, i wanted to set up the wireless later on, since it's harder to do.

Yes, you would need to be connected to the internet to do it through Synaptic, but Synaptic makes installation a snap.
Did you refresh Synaptic and try the search feature? I know it's listed in there, but I'm not in front of my Mepis box to look for it until this evening. |
While in KDE, hook up your wifi.
Get connected. Either with Synaptic or command line, apt-get install xfce. I run it now and then, and that is how I installed it. |
Since MEPIS is a Live CD distro you can not install anything you don't already have without internet connection. Once you get connected do this:
apt-get update apt-get install xfce4 <edit> If you have internet access from another computer that can burn CD's you could go HERE and download all the depends, burn a CD then install them from that. |
