Mepis 7 Russian characters

Hey all,
installed Mepis7 --> OK
needed VMware-Server 1.0.6 and therefore: build-essential, xinetd and linux-headers-2.6.22.1
These I wanted to install through Synaptic, but Synaptic starts in RUSSIAN, so I used Kpackage Manager instead and the packages installed OK
Nevertheless I see in some menus Russian characters appearing.
How can this be solved ?

Go to control center in the main menu. choose "Regional and .....". Then choose "Country/Region and Language". Then choose your region and country. (for example "North America" and then "United States".

Click "apply" and that should do it.
