Hey well I am kind of a newbie to linux, well complete newbie, and right now I just got mepis 3.2 i think working on an old computer i had, it isnt that old, it is a 1.8 P4, 256mb, and an nvidia video card, so it isnt that bad, but yeah. well i was just looking at the mepis site and saw that mepis 6.0 came out and was wondering if anyone recommemded it. and do I just download it and install it over my old mepis or do i have to uninstall the old one and install the new one???
Hang about and I'll letyou know in a couple of hours ...
Downloaded it yesterday for the lady of the house - would expect to install straight over the top.
Take the normal precautions - back-up /home, xorg config, menu.lst ...
I left 100Gig free on her system, so I just image the whole thing so I can recover in need.
ohh ok, well I mean I am kind of new to it to, so i really havent mod it very much just configured the things and since I didnt know much f mepis, i just finished configuring the internet connection, and other things,
still cannot get the ipod to work, nor can i burn things to cd or that kind of stuff, any help greatly needed.
Dunno about the ipod, but CD burning is a breeze - I even burnt the Mepis 6 iso on that machine.
Have a look for the red icon down the bottom - k3b. Very good, and very intuitive.
You might want to go looking for support sites for Mepis - eg. mepislovers.com
Well that was a total fsck-up.
Initially couldn't get the upgrade CD to start X - eventually had to force it to 800x600. After the install it won't go above that - guess I'll need to find a Nvidia driver somewhere.
Pity the network isn't working, and I can't get the 10/100 or wifi working.
Will be backing it all out, and looking for another distro.
Others have had more luck, but as for me, Warren has dropped the ball here.
yeah, i just tried installing it today and i am having hll with it, just gave up on it, i have no idea what the heck is wrong with 6.0 but it just lost me for completely. to bad really liked it
