mencoder file size limit 2GB

I ripped one of my dvd with bitrate 1600 into divx format using mencoder. I've ripped other dvd before with the size below 2GB, it worked well. But this time I tried to rip one dvd with hi bitrate setting, > 3 hours play time. When the ripping showed that the file size was about 2000MB, it stopped saying that the file size limit exceeded. Is it a bug or mencoder limitation on avi/divx file? Can I go beyond the file size limit?

IIRC during the configure stage of Mencoder/Mplayer you can specify to allow larger filesizes. Check the output of ./configure --help to determine this. Also look at your filesystem and ensure that's not limiting you either.

Cool

The file system for the partition I saved the ripped avi is vfat. May that's the real cause. Does ext3 have the same restriction? The version of the mencoder that I use is 1.0pre, which I installed from rpm (Because I was not able to install from source). I'll try that with 0.93 source. Thanks:D
