mencoder/ffmpeg convert video(wmv) for Windows Mobile?

Hi there,

I have tested mencoder / ffmpeg trying to convert some video (like avi) for my mobile phone (on Windows Mobile 2003).

(e.g. mencoder vcd://2 -cdrom-device /dev/hdd -of lavf -lavfopts i_certify_that_my_video_stream_does_not_use_b_frames -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=wmv2:vbitrate=100 -vf scale=176:144 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp3:abitrate=48 -o output1.wmv)

But unfortunately, the video (e.g. *.wmv/asf) produced either play with no sound or doesn't play at all. Now it just able to turn sound track into *.mp3.

Any idea?
The doc seems doesn't resolve the problem that the *.wmv / asf doesn't play on the Win Mobile.
Or hear of any GPL video player for Win Mobile.

Thanks for any suggestion.

I can see that you posted this a while ago, and so may have already solved the problem. If so congrats. If not I may be able to help as I have used mencoder/ffmpeg/etc a fair bit for recording/converting videos. I would need you to post the first part of the mencoder output before it got into all the frames encoded time remaining etc. Also would need to know if it finished without any errors (i.e. wrote the index).

As for a player for mobile devices My wife has had great success with tcpmp (The Core Pocket Media Player) on her Zire 31. There is a version for Window modile devices and one for smartphones too. You will probably also want to grab some of the codec plugins depending on your needs.

you can find TCPMP here:

http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about

Hope this helps,

Thanks very much !!!

I also drop into an article only yesterday about TCPMP, and it plays almost all the files i produces with Mencoder!!!

- e.g mencoder vcd://2 -cdrom-device /dev/hdd -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4:mbd=2:trell:vbitrate=100 -vf scale=176:144 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=96 -o Test_34.avi

It is just a great player!!!

I will try later to resolve other matters - e.g., there is noise (with very high pitch) intervals at the audiot captured - i thought Mencoder just don't copy the digital data, but capture in analog...

Thanks anyway for your reply. See if there is other experience that we can exchange on Mencoder/ffmpeg etc.

Cheers
Paul
